Why Study in the United Kingdom
- Globally recognised, high-value qualifications from historic institutions.
- An enormous range of specialisations, so students can match a course to their exact interests and career goals.
- Shorter programme durations — typically three years for an undergraduate degree and one year for a master’s.
- A multicultural, tolerant society that is home to communities from all over the world.
- Scholarships and bursaries, plus access to healthcare through the National Health Service and student discounts nationwide.
Education System
- Undergraduate study generally requires 13 years of prior education; postgraduate study requires 16 years or a completed bachelor’s degree.
- Undergraduate applications are submitted through UCAS, a single online system that lets you apply to several universities on one form; the main deadline falls in mid-January.
- Postgraduate applications are usually made directly to each university, most of which accept applications on a rolling basis — apply six to eight months ahead for popular courses.
- Foundation programmes (about one year) and sandwich courses (which add an industry placement year) offer flexible entry routes.
Entry & English Requirements
IELTS around 6.0 for undergraduate and 6.5 for postgraduate study, with TOEFL accepted as an alternative. Typical documents include attested transcripts, one to two academic references, a statement of purpose, a CV, and score reports where required.
Work & Visa
Students at government colleges and universities may work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full time during holidays. A student visa requires an unconditional offer and CAS letter from a licensed university, along with evidence of funds for tuition and living costs.
